Bloomfield State Bank was notified by Certegy Check Services that a database maintained by Certegy for approving checks for merchants had been breached. This is a database of information provided to Certegy by merchants nationwide when they receive a check for payment and when a check has been returned to them for various reasons. No information contained in any file at Bloomfield State Bank was included in the breach because Bloomfield does not share customer information with any third parties. However, if you regularly write checks to merchants who participate in the Certegy database, any information on your checks and any information you gave the merchants may be at risk. Certegy and Bloomfield State Bank will be contacting you soon if your information was thought to be compromised. In the interim, Certegy has established two means for consumers to contact them directly. You may call them at 800-599-7095 and you will be asked to leave your name and phone number. Certegy has indicated that they will respond to all phone inquiries. You may also eMail them at questions@certegy.com and leave your name and any identifying information you are comfortable leaving with them. The eMail response will probably be quicker. We continue to safeguard any information you have with us and we will not share it with any third party. However, we feel it is our responsibility to share issues like this with you even though they are beyond our control. As always, please contact us with any concern or
question you may have. 7-5-2007 |
