Director Profile: Mark L. Barkley, Chairman
Mark
L. Barkley is the current Chairman of the Company and the Bank. A
fourth-generation member of the Barkley–Haig family that has guided
Bloomfield State Bank for over a century, Mr. Barkley has served the Bank in
a variety of roles for over 20 years. A graduate of Ball State University
and the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin, he worked
in the real-estate industry before embarking on his banking career and is
highly experienced in the area of commercial real-estate lending. Mr.
Barkley furthermore has extensive entrepreneurial experience in real-estate
development and management. Mr. Barkley was a member of the Young
Entrepreneurs’ Organization’s Indiana chapter during its formative years. He
has served in the Indiana Bankers Association as both Region 6 President and
a member of the Association’s board of directors. Mr. Barkley has been an
active member of the Bloomfield Rotary Club for over 20 years and has served
as club president. Mr. Barkley is a long-standing member of both the
Bloomington Chamber of Commerce and the Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce and
has been the Bloomfield Chamber’s president. He was also involved with the
Bloomington Chamber committee which successfully campaigned to keep the US
Navy’s local Crane facility open during the Base Realignment and Closure
proceedings in Washington, DC. Mr. Barkley also served on the board of
directors of Bloomington’s Low Income Housing Trust Fund. Mr. Barkley was
named Sagamore of the Wabash, an honor bestowed by the Governor of Indiana
for exemplary action and contribution to the community and the state of
Indiana.
