Bloomfield State Bank's Mitchell Banking Center History
This location has since closed and has now been moved to what used to be Mills Market. In 1928, the building that is currently the Mitchell Banking Center of Bloomfield State Bank was built. At that time it was known as the First National Bank. In the early 1960s, a room was built on the back of the bank building for posting machines and bookkeeping area. At the same time, the interior was remodeled. Included in the expansion was the acquisition of another building for new offices, loan department, drive-up window, and community room. After the fire on Wednesday, January 22, 1966, the bank purchased a tract of land next door for the drive-up banking facility and mini-park that still stands today. The parking lot in back was purchased in 1969 from Harry Matthews. The first drive-up window with access from Main St. was installed in 1970, followed by a second window in 1973, and a kiosk automatic teller in 1980. The current building exterior was restored in July of 1981 to its 1928 appearance. Price comparisons of construction: Original Building built in 1902 - $3,300 Bank Building built in 1928 - $28,909 Restoration project in 1981 - $37,639
After some changes in ownership over the next few years, Bloomfield State Bank purchased First National Bank in September of 2001. The building still stands in its restored condition as done in 1981. |
