Question
1:
I recently purchased a suit at a store, so they would do
the alterations I requested. I paid with my debit card.
While these were being done, I continued to shop at this
store. When the alterations were done, I went to check
out again and tried to use my debit card that I had used
to pay for the suit. The store clerk told me came back as
“denied”. When I got home I found the Bloomfield State
Bank Security fraud department had called. The reason: I
tried to use the card twice in about 30-minutes and they
thought I may have left my card at the counter the first
time and someone else was trying to use it the second
time.
Answer
1:
This scenario we can all agree that it is unusual
for a person to make 2 purchases in a men’s clothing store
within an 30 minute window. Is it possible? Of course it
is and in this case, it was completely legit & above
board. But you can also see how it didn’t look “normal”.
We will contact you based on the information we have on
your customer file. Please let us know if you have
alternate or preferred contact information. We will never
solicit calls to you or sell your information. We ask for
this contact information only to help prevent fraud from
occurring on your accounts.
Question
2:
I normally use my card in the Bloomington area, and
but decide to visit Chicago and I use my card, will the
transaction be allowed?
Answer
2:
Yes, 99% of the time.
Question
3:
If I’ve never used the debit card for an internet
purchase, and then try it, will it be allowed?
Answer
3:
Yes, 99% of the time.
Question
4:
Will the above transactions be allowed if the bank tries
to contact me and can’t?
Answer
4:
Yes, 99% of the time. There will be occasions when we are
unable to contact the cardholder and we feel strongly that
the transaction is fraud. If Bloomfield State Bank is not
open, our 24-Hour Security Department will make a decision
based on the nature of the transaction. If the
transaction is considered strongly to be suspect of fraud,
we will temporarily place the card into inactive status
until we can verify the transactions with the cardholder.
Question
5:
If I notify Bloomfield State Bank in advance of going on
vacation, can you flag my card to allow transactions that
might have appeared fraudulent otherwise?
Answer
5:
Yes, this will help us in determining the possibility of
fraud. We will place a note on your account to reference
in the event a transaction is scored as potentially being
fraudulent.
Question
6:
Is there a charge for this service?
Answer
6:
NO, this service is absolutely free of charge. We provide
this feature on every customers debit card free.
Answers
to all the above:
Bloomfield State Bank’s Security Department and the Falcon
software do have the ability to deny a
transaction however we reserve that for extreme cases. The
Falcon software in 5+ years has exercised that option only
twice. We use Falcon as a tool to sift through the
transactions and find the fraud, not as an
authorization/denial tool.
There will
be occasions when we are unable to contact you and we feel
strongly that the transaction is fraud. If Bloomfield
State Bank is not open, our 24-Hour Security Department
will attempt to contact you and will make a decision based
on the nature of the transaction. If the transaction is
considered very strongly to be suspect of fraud, we will
temporarily place the card into inactive status until we
can verify the transaction with the cardholder. You will
need to contact either Bloomfield State Bank or our
24-Hour Security Department.
If you plan
on traveling abroad or take a vacation, it is best to let
us know when and where. This is especially true if you
are traveling abroad as most fraudulent activity occurs
over seas. We will refer to these notes before making a
decision about the transaction and how to status your
card.
Bloomfield
State Bank has implemented this security feature to your
